Polyurea Coatings Professionally Installed Last Longer

One of the major factors which determine the length of how long a polyurea coating will last is how the coating is installed.

Unfrotuently, many people read about these polyurea coatings online and decide they want to have one for themselves. Cutting corners they decide to attempt and replicate the polyurea installation process themselves.

However, this creates several problems as it’s not easy to install a polyurea coating. With other coatings, you might be able to get away with it but a polyurea coating requires several layers all applied perfectly.

If you fail to ‘install’ the polyurea correctly on top of each other then the coatings will begin to bubble. This bubbling defeats the purpose of the polyurea as it can degrade its lifetime.

As such one of the major limiting factors to the lifetime of a polyurea coating is how it is installed. A good coating that is installed properly will last over a decade.

Polyurea Concrete Coatings Have Undergone Stress Tests in Industry Environments

Another factor that impacts the longevity of a polyurea concrete coating is the environment in which it is installed.

Well, luckily for you all of our polyurea coatings have been installed in extremely heavy industry environments long before they started being applied to residential homes.

For example, before being applied to homes polyurea coatings were installed on ocean-going ships and on the floors of steel warehouses. In all applications, a polyurea coating has behaved perfectly and has not cracked or faded. Simply put, a polyurea concrete coating has been ‘battle-tested’ long before it has come to any residential properties.

Because of this, you can rest easy knowing that your polyurea coating can withstand anything that your home can roll or throw over it. It has already lasted years in industrial environments and will last even longer on your concrete.

Polyurea Coatings Are Designed to Be Flexible While Other Coatings Are Designed to Be Brittle and Break

The final factor which impacts the longevity of a polyurea coating is the way that it is designed.

Other concrete coatings such as epoxy are built to harden instantly. This forms a nearly impenetrable barrier between your concrete and anything on top of it.

On paper, this sounds amazing and just what you wanted. However, in practice, you want a coating that is not brittle and hard but flexible and adaptable to anything that is thrown at it. This is because your concrete coating needs to be able to ‘flex’ when pressure is applied to it.

In effect, this is going to spread out the pressure on the coating across it. The problem however is that with an inferior concrete coating, this pressure will lead to cracks and warping over time. A polyurea coating, on the other hand, is the only one in the industry that is designed to remain flexible over the lifetime of the coating.

The Lifetime of Concrete Coatings

When it comes down to the lifetime you can expect to get from your concrete coating you should follow this rule.

If your concrete coating is epoxy then you will more than likely have to replace the coating once every 2-5 years depending on the traffic that rolls or walks over it. If you have urethane or acrylic your concrete coating should last around 4 years without having to be replaced. If you have a polyurea concrete coating then you won’t have to replace it for well over 15 years.

The longevity of the concrete coating completely depends on where you install it and what type of traffic it is exposed to. An epoxy coating installed in a factory warehouse might only last a couple of months while a polyurea coating installed in a garage might last well over 2 decades. Generally, speaking a polyurea coating is by far more durable and will last longer then any other coating.
